Do you feel that life is a daily struggle that is continually overwhelming you and draining you of enjoying life? Are you short on energy but long on a short temper?
I work with individuals, couples, and families that are dealing with a range of issues that are creating emotional discord in their life. Issues may range from parenting and relationship issues to trauma, sexual abuse, grief, life transitions, depression and anxiety.
Each client has it in themselves to make positive changes in their life, but may need assistance in that journey. I believe in the client's innate ability to heal themself, even those presenting with complex traumas (PTSD).
Therapeutic work addresses a holistic approach of mind, body, and spirit, as I believe one impacts the others. Treatment modalities are integraed with the client's values and beliefs as well as with the goals the client is working towards. I use a combination of theraputec techniques such as: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Soulution Focused Therapy, Family of Origin, Jungian, and other treatment modalities that would best meet the needs of the client.
I strive to create a safe, supportive, confidential environment where clients are able to find strength and courage to be honest with themselves as they make positive changes in their life. Together we explore current beliefs, thought patterns, and behaviors that are impeding the client from reaching thier goal, thus keeping them from living a more fufilling life.
I work with each client on a sliding scale that is negotiated prior to the first appointment.
EMDR
When a person experiences a trauma the brain may be unable to process the event. Like an old vinyl record that is scratched, the scene keeps playing over and over again. The trauma continues to drive daily decisions and emotions, whether consciously or unconsciously for months or years. EMDR is similar to the rapid eye movement (REM) cycle that is experienced during sleep. EMDR mimics REM, enabling the brain to process the trauma. Many times client’s issues may be resolved in several sessions, depending on the severity of the trauma. EMDR may not be for every client. Call me to discuss if you may be a candidate for EMDR or have any questions. More information may also be found through the EMDR International Association’s web site, www.emdria.org.
